Personalised Home Tutoring - FAQ's

Where does personalised tutoring take place?
The tutoring will take place in your home. This is because the pupil will feel more comfortable learning in their own home. It also gives me the opportunity to offer feedback to you, the parents or guardians in person. This is the most helpful and personal way for you to keep track of your child's learning. The same applies for adult education as well.

Do you teach in my area?
At the moment these are the following places I teach. Including surrounding areas;
 Netley Marsh

What is the age range of pupils who you can teach?
I teach children from as young as four years old. I have knowledge and experience in phonetic and visual learning techniques. In addition to key stage 1 and 2 I am also able to teach key stage 3 and 4 and college/sixth form students as well as adult education.

How many hours of tutoring will I /my child need?
That really depends on what kind of support and how much of it is required. In some cases it could be that you or the pupil may only need a tutor for one term. I would recommend that sessions last approximately one to one and a half hours. This is largely because one to one teaching can be quite intense for you or your child. So, for that reason, fatigue and a lack of concentration for the pupil may begin to set in!

What experience do you have?
My previous teaching experiences have included whole class teaching for GCSE and A-Level pupils. In addition to this I have also taught on a one to one basis with SEN pupils (special educational needs). The subjects and modules I have taught at GCSE level have included; screenwriting, media and citizenship studies. The subjects I have taught at A-Level include; film studies and media studies. My experiences with SEN pupils include those who have had hearing difficulties, dyslexia, retention/concentration difficulties, ADHD, and those who have had some underlying comprehension difficulties. I have also a volunteered at two local primary schools where I have assisted with reading and writing.

What is your availability?
I teach at evenings and during the day. I recommend that sessions are held regularly. i.e. same time and day each week as this would probably be the most suitable and appropriate method for the pupil and their learning. And, I would also require 48 hours notice if I am to successfully book your child in for a session. Or, alternatively change/rearrange a session. I am currently unavailable during half terms.

Can I see proof of who you are?
Yes. I have a valid (DBS) and you are more than welcome to see my certificates of education and references. These can be made available to you before or during an initial visit.

Do you have references?
Yes. I have various written references. These can be made available to you before or during an assessment.
